The Challenge

Acrylic "pour painting" requires specialized vessels to direct the flow of paint into specific patterns on a canvas. Because acrylic paint is difficult to remove from complex plastic geometries once it begins to cure, artists often spend more time cleaning their tools than painting. The challenge was to design a functional, specialized pouring cup that was inexpensive enough to be treated as a disposable item.

The Solution

Designed in Fusion 360, this pouring cup features a wide-mouth funnel and a stabilized base to prevent tipping during the paint-loading process. To address the cleaning issue, the part was engineered for minimal material usage.

By using thin wall settings and a standard layer height, the print time and cost were kept low enough to make the item "single-use" friendly. While the interior layer lines remain visible, they do not negatively impact the fluid dynamics of the pour, allowing the artist to focus on the creative output rather than equipment maintenance.

The Result

The artist received a custom-tailored tool that perfectly facilitated their specific pouring technique.
